|May 13-16th 2019 - Heather Cup|
Our Annual Heather Cup took place this year on the grounds of Terenure College from May 13th -16th and we had a most enjoyable few days of sunshine and soccer.
Well done to all the 261 children from 3rd to 6th class in St. Pius X boys and girls schools for taking part. Special mention to all the 3rd class children playing for the first time and all the 6th class children playing for the last time, for whom the Heather Cup has been a big part of the St. Pius X National Schools experience. The sunshine drew great numbers of support, which added greatly to the atmosphere each evening.
This year the team led by Ryan Laing and Eoin Leen won the boys tournament, and the team led by Julianne Walsh and Alex Quirke won the girls. As always we were entertained throughout the tournament by some great skill and of course the nail biting penalty shoot outs!
Thanks to all those who helped make this possible, the Heather Cup Committee of Caroline Costello, Helen Ryan, Maire Cahill & Maura Martin, our school secretaries for managing enrolment and the many questions thrown at them, our school Principles for supporting the event each year (with the disturbance of dealing with many tired bodies and parents homework passes!), the parents for pitch supervision, St. John's Ambulance, Terenure TY students for refereeing and carrying out lines-man duties, our final night 'pro' ref's, Terenure College staff for allowing us use their pitches each year and in particular groundskeeper Richard Hand for preparing the pitches for us.
